12-25-2010 more pics

so today (bc of the snow!!!) we had some photo shoots. Susie participated in all (both) of them, which is why she is in every pic:) Sarah was in the morning one, and Kathy took some pics w/me in them, which is how I'm in a some of them!!! well, i tried using a tripod, but that was kinda a fail. like I almost slipped and died from pushing the cam button and getting into place before the self timer went off. (susie even let me put make up on her face...:))

kathy chose this pose -

cake!!!!

today, me, Kathy, Susie and Sarah attempted to copy a cake made by a bakery in MT for my birthday!!!! here is the professionally made cake -

and they used all fondant, and we used buttercream icing with fondant decorations (I did that bc I like the taste of buttercream and not so much fondant). so, here is our version of it (we did different coloring and stuff, but it was still copying a lot!!) -

hopefully it will taste good;)

more of my day...

setting up our Christmas tree!!!

my day today so far...

3:18 a.m. wake up (not kidding)

3:34 a.m. leave to go black friday shopping with Susie, Kathy and Dad

first stop: Target. um, we parked across the street (it was raining almost all morning, btw) because the Target parking lot was closed off bc its was completely full. we crossed the street and parking lot, and saw the line to get into Target was ridiculous (it went beyond the parking lot, past a strip of stores that are next to Target, and to a street uber far away. so, some of you may not know this, but Steak and Shake has a happy hour at 2-4 everyday. morning/when everyone should be sleeping and afternoon. so, seeing that we would not get into Target anytime soon, and seeing that it was about 3:50 a.m., Dad suggested we go to steak and shake for 1/2 price shakes. Dad got the turtle nut sundae flavor, Susie got a chocolate one, and Kathy got mint cookies and cream shake. I did not feel like have a large milkshake at 4 in the morning. I was holding out for coffee at Panera:). next we hit Old Navy and didn't get anything (the line went to the back of the store), then Academy Sports (which is one of my fave stores!) and I got some presents for sibilings. THEN we went back to Target and I literally could not find the end of the checkout kine (I think it wrapped around the store a few times) and decided we didn't want to stand in line for hours and hours.

6:00 a.m. PANERA OPENED!!! so after Target, Kathy and I ran across the parking lot to Panera and I got a coffee and a bagel:) Susie and Dad went to Kohls to get a vacuum cleaner that was on sale, but then didnt get it bc of the lines again.

oh, and somewhere in the morning we went to walmart.

After Panera/Kohls, we went to Best Buy and Staples for Dad.

we came back home (I drove;)) at about 8:30 a.m., we got home and Dad went to work.

Sarah had decided last night that she wanted to go black friday shopping, but at a more decent hour. and she needed a buddy. i was that buddy. between 8:30 and 9:00 a.m., I tried to make myself look less like I had been hit by a train (the coffee/caffiene helped:)) and we left at 9:00a.m.)

First we went to Lifeway, bc they had SUPER sales on some of the books. next was the World Market, and Sarah looked around a bit, and got a present for me for my birthday. next was Target (yes, the same place I had been twice already today). She got some presents and so did I (the lines were much shorter...you could actually find the end of them). Last stop was Barnes and Noble. Sarah got some books there (I don't know what ones).

I think we got home a little after 11:00 a.m. and I was tired and hungry. I had some food (Thanksgiving meal all over again:)), and organized my presents that I had just bought, and made lists for what else I needed to buy.

now it's 1:14 p.m.

Do you have any Thanksgiving or black friday stories?

:-/

this was my day yesterday, today and hopefully not tomorrow:)

Sunday, November 14, 2010

i don't really know what to post about....

sooo....I'll just throw a bunch of random stuff out there (i guess that's kinda normal for me, though;))

it's uber scary that Thanksgiving/the holidays are almost here!!! I have been using the word "uber" a lot ('to an extreme or excessive degree:super' www.merriam-webster.com ). my dad turned 51 (i'm sure he's glad I'm telling you all;)). my birthday is in 1 month and 5 days. Emilie Zeglens birthday is in 1 month and 5 days. in a few ours we are hosting a jewelry party with jewelry made by the rescued girls of Freedom Firm ( www.freedomfirm.org ). tomorrow I am hoping to go for a run because I haven't in a week or so and I REALLY REALLY need to!!!! I have driven a lot, and had dreams of being pulled over by cops and getting into trouble, and i had a dream where Susie drove a car off a hill/cliff/ridge and had to save her medically. it's getting colder in chattanooga!!! some days it can be in the 70's, but other days its in the 40's - I'm ready for winter!!! oh, and this year i really want to decorate our house with sparkely lights. lots of sparkely lights. and I want it to snow A LOT this year. I dont know if that will happen. maybe I should go somewhere else to see snow. hint hint. MONTANA! anyway, if you made it through this randomness, you should give yourself a gold star. or a princess sticker. I would go with the princess sticker I think.

the next iron chef: Kathy Zeglen

this is kathy's dinner that she made by herself. It's an egg with different cheeses and bacon bits on top, and some spinach torn up. she said she was working on her presentation:) maybe we've been watching too much foodnetwork?;)after she made her dinner, Kathy also started making apple creations, like apple-cinnamon chips with peanut butter dip:)

distorted post:)

*The picture's weren't moving on the post, so the explanation for these pics is below.*

I didn't want to risk disturbing these nuggets of gold - I mean cookies:), so I took the finished pic through plastic wrap...sorry! In the pic are leaves and acorns, but I also made pumpkin, maple leaf, and apple shaped cookies. My helper - :)

Stephen Zeglen and Emilie Heine are getting married in 7 days!!!!! I am SO excited! I think we are mostly ready as far as packing and the trip...but there is still stuff to do for that.

yesterday I made and iced an army of cookies for an open house for a sweet family at our church who recently got their adopted son from South Korea (the open house is so people from church can come meet their adorable baby). The theme is fall:) (pics above)

yesterday Susie had a regatta in Oak Ridge (I think thats like 2 hours away from us, but I'm not sure) with her rowing team.

We are leaving for MT in 5 days!!!!

2 stories from yesterday

I was babysitting a precious *almost* 1 year old girl yesterday. it was about 3 in the afternoon and I had already gotten her out of her crib after she was supposed to nap (which she didn't). So we started playing a little bit, when the fire alarm started going off (and she lives with her family in a condo on the 3rd floor of a building). Madison (the girl I was watching) immediately just kind of froze and her eyes got really big and you could tell she just didn't know what was going on and why there was a loud noise and flashing light. I didn't think there was a fire 1. because her mom would either call or race up (her mom was working in her office one story below us) 2. it was raining earlier and everything was wet (outside) 3. there was construction two apartments down from us. so I just grabbed Madison and took her into the hallway outside of their condo and just checked out what was going on (there were construction workers running everywhere. so we just went back inside and in my head I worked out an alternate fire exit strategy (that involved skydiving off of the 3d floor;))just in case.
about 30 min. later, I had Madison in her high chair and was giving her a snack of peaches and cheerios when the fire alarm went off again. Madison immediately started screaming bloody murder and I just held her until the alarm stopped (which it did after about 1 minute).
as I walked out of their building one or two hours later, I read a sign on the main entrance door that stated, "alarm systems being tested on the 3rd floor from the hours of 7 am to 5 pm". wow, Mary. maybe that sign wasn't there when I went up 5 hours earlier? I don't know what to do with me sometimes.:)

next story - it was about 9:30pm and Mom and Dad were still out at the parents meeting for my co-op, and we had already eaten candy and popcorn and watched a movie. Sarah and I had already planned on previewing an intense ab routine workout video to start doing, but she didn't find it in the normal place, which only left the garage (we have most of our movies in a book case in the garage), so once we were pretty much just waiting for mom and dad to get home, I asked, "hey sarah, how 'bout we watch the p90X abs?" and she replied, "sure, we can get it together." so I went along with it and we both approached the garage, opened the door, and turned on the light. we both went in (Sarah first) and I started looking towards the bookcase when I heard a blood curdling scream. I immediately looked over and saw Sarah IN THE AIR!!!! I was slightly distracted by Sarah being airborne, but I thought I saw about 3 shadowy figures skitter across the floor. as soon as she hit solid ground again, Sarah started charging for the door and so did I (but I wasn't yet sure why) and as I turned to go out, I saw a HUGE cockroach climbing up the refrigerater door handle (we have an extra fridge in our garage)!!!!! so Sarah and I ran out and slammed the door shut. Susie, Peter and Kathy were outside the door waiting for an explanation of why their older sisters were acting like they saw the abominable snow man! Sarah started frantically rambling, "I saw five cockroaches!!!! they were flying!!! 2 went over my feet!!!!" then Susie remarked that cockroaches are afraid of light, so when you turned the light on you probably scared them. thanks, Susie;).

so, I think that concludes the most eventive parts of my day yesterday:)

berzerkeley

for backround on the story, go to Susie's blog www.liveoutloudsz.blogspot.com

Our skit was based on the novel Sophies World. For the skit, there was the main character, Sophie, who would introduce each of the philosophers (who were the rest of the class), and the philosophers would present their philosophy in 30 seconds or less. The skit was supposed to go like this: Sophie would stand in the center of the stage with the philosophers in clusters behind her. She would introduce one and he/she would step forward and present their philosophy. One philosopher was left out though...Berkeley (who was my character). So each philosopher (except me) stepped forward, presented, and stepped back, and Sophie almost completed her conclusion when our teacher motion/mouthed that Sophie had left someone out!!! Sophie then realized that she had left Berkeley out and shouted, "Oh, wait!!! There's a bonus!!! Here is George Berkeley who lived from __ to ___. Now Berkeley, tell me about your philosophy." And I did and we stepped off of the stage. Now, back in my cluster, as I realized that I had been left out, I was quite excited. I do not like the pressure of speaking in front of a lot of people (sometimes its fun, but not this time so much). Sophie had completely finished her conclusion, but I also realized that our teacher was going to try to get me to do my part, so I was trying to hurry the ending and I was telling the guy in my cluster, "Hank, get off the stage right now!!! we gotta go!" He was a little confused, and before we could move off, I was standing in front of a lot of people giving them the Berkeley "We can not know any more of the world than we can percieve through our senses" speech. Anyway, I hope that all makes sense...PLEASE leave comments if you dont understand and I will try to clarify:)

Oh, and Sophie is a fantabulous friend, who did a PERFECT job playing the part of Sophie. She had all of the philosophers written on a small piece of paper in a notebook, and it was easy to lose track of anybody...it just happened to be me:) But she came up with an intro, conclusion, and most everything in between IMMEDIATLY before we went on stage. NOBODY could have done a better job ever!!!!!

pics from the Spring Protocol

Here are a few pics from the Spring Protocol. I think I look goofy in all of them:)

Spring Protocol

Last night, Sarah, Susie and I participated in the Spring Protocol that is part of our co-op. A few weeks before, we had an etiquitte lesson (get in on the left of your chair, out on the right, etc.). All of the students in the two high school classes of our co-op and a few parents met at our house before leaving to go to the restauraunt. After the schnazzy restaurant, we proceeded to the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera to see the "Sea" concert thing. After that we came back to our house, and parent picked up their kids.

For any of those wondering, I am sure pictures will be coming:)

Today

Have you ever read Derwood Incorporated? Well, if you have you probably recall the 500 pound mile long giant killer octopus. Today, I am reporting that it DOES exist. That's right. It is alive.
It is all true, except for one thing: it is not an octopus at all, it is a cockroach. We crossed paths this morning before I stepped into the shower. not cool.

Other than that, todays happenings involve Susie making some delicous Turkish Delight that seems to be working out just fine.

I missed them

Sorry to everyone who did not get a "Happy Birthday" from me.

'Little Bird" sung and played by Kathy Zeglen

I took this video of Kathy during her piano session with me(I help/keep her company while she practices the piano). She said that this is her favorite song for this week and I think she likes it because she can sing along:).

*Excuse the majorly-out-of-tune piano*

Notice the Whoppers on the piano:)

comments

I changed (or tried to:)) my comment section, because I heard it wasn't great and was a pain. so let me know what you think and how I should change it to make it better. One thing I did was take off the word verification thing, so if I start doubting any of your language/reading/writing skills, I might have to put it back on;). input is appreciated!
